With their penchant for releasing colorways inspired by events, it is not really surprising that the Jordan Brand has a “Chinese New Year” design coming up.
Air Jordan 5 Low Chinese New Year
Color:Black/Bright Crimson-Beta Blue-Black
Release Date:January 23, 2016
The Air Jordan 5 Low silhouette has always been a favorite for many and combined with this classically colorful design, it’s easy to see why people are lining up for the kicks. And they’re not just lining up in China – despite the name, the Chinese New Year colorway is NOT exclusive to the country it was inspired from. The Jordan release date is set for January 23, 2016 and will be available everywhere for anyone who wants the shoe to be part of their collection.
As for the design, the color combinations are a little hard to describe. The main body of the kicks is draped in smooth, midnight black leather. What makes the shoes stand out is the tongue which is coated in an eye-catching combination of blue and pink in varying shades. The Jumpman logo holds center stage amid the splash of color with Nike deciding to make the icon black and bigger than the usual size. Not surprising since any other color might make the logo fade because of the bright pastel as its background.
The same combination of colors for the tongue is repeated on the heel portion as well as a part of the soles. The outsole or edging however is a layer of translucent icy blue and a more opaque blue shade. The heels also sport the Jumpman icon, again done in black and notably larger than the usual size of the logo placed at the back.
The laces are plain black with red-orange eyelets that blend beautifully with the black body. Flipping the kicks, the bottom portion is fairly routine with a JORDAN emblem and the Jumpman logo seen through the translucent soles.
All in all, it’s a pretty good design although it’s a little hard to see where the “Chinese New Year” comes in. Maybe the burst of color resembles fireworks? We don’t know – but we do know they carry the quality trademark as a Nike and Jordan Brand release.
When it comes to pictures, Sneaker News has been more than generous with pictures seen from virtually any angle. If you’re loving the colorway, make sure you’re one of the few who manages to grab it by the 23th of January. If not however, rumors have it than there are more Air Jordan 5 Low silhouette releases in store for 2016.
